The Algorithm Eats: Part 3

Profiting from the Red Ocean Chaos, Misery and Confusion

In Jaws, the mayor and the town council refused to close the beaches despite clear evidence of danger. Why? Because tourist dollars mattered more than public safety. In the same way, the network marketing companies, social media trainers, and influencers who preach the gospel of algorithm success aren’t just ignoring the threat—they’re enabling it. Why? Because your failure is their profit.

The Myth They Sell

“Build your brand on social media!” they tell you.
“Follow my system, and you’ll beat the algorithm!” they promise.

But here’s the truth they won’t say out loud: most people can’t succeed in their programs. They know this. They’ve built their empires on it. Like the tourists flocking to the beach in Jaws, network marketers are lured in by the promise of sun, fun, and success. They don’t realize they’re swimming directly into the jaws of the shark.

A Personal Encounter with the Villains

When I came out of retirement, I thought I could “hack the system” like the experts claimed. I invested in a social media training program designed to boost influence and engagement. At first, it seemed promising. I followed all the steps—posting strategically, engaging with comments, crafting the “perfect” profile.

But then I noticed something troubling. The deeper I went, the more it felt… wrong.

The program encouraged tactics that bordered on manipulation:

  • Flattery to gain favor: Commenting on posts not out of genuine interest but to stay visible in someone’s feed.
  • Performative positivity: Sharing feel-good platitudes to rack up likes, even when they didn’t align with my values.
  • Gaming the system: Tricks to outsmart the algorithm that worked briefly but always backfired in the long run.

I started to see the cracks in the facade. These programs weren’t designed for the little guy—they were designed to extract as much money as possible while leaving you to fend for yourself when the system inevitably failed.

The Villains Speak: A Revealing Conversation

Here’s an excerpt from another conversation I had with the algorithm:

Me: “Why do these trainers keep telling people they can succeed with your system when most don’t?”
Algorithm: “Because they know better than to rely on me. They already have influence. They use me to keep it. But their students? They’re just fodder. They’re feeding the shark.”

That’s when it clicked. The algorithm isn’t the only villain. The real villains are the ones who know the game is rigged and still send people into the water.

Proverbs 14:15-16: Wisdom for the Prudent

“The simple believe everything, but the prudent watch where they are going; the wise fear and turn away from evil, but a fool is reckless and confident.”

The simple believe the promises of these trainers and influencers without question. They dive headfirst into the red ocean of social media marketing, confident they can succeed where so many others have failed. But the prudent—the ones who think critically—start to see the truth. They fear the danger and look for a way out.

Building a Blue Ocean

I realized I couldn’t continue in the red ocean, treading water while the algorithm circled below. I needed a new strategy—one rooted in integrity, transparency, and biblical principles.

That’s when I decided to create my own blue ocean. A place where network marketers like me—people who don’t want to be deceptive or disingenuous—could thrive without relying on the algorithm’s games.

The Villains’ Endgame

The network marketing elite don’t want you to know this. They profit from your struggle, your frustration, your repeated attempts to “try harder.” They need you in the red ocean because it keeps them in power.

But the red ocean isn’t your only option. There’s a way out—if you’re willing to listen, learn, and rethink everything you’ve been told.

Turning Away from the Shark

The algorithm has admitted its purpose—to manipulate, divide, and feed on our engagement. But what’s more frightening is how we’ve let it dictate our actions. Like swimmers venturing into shark-infested waters, we assume we can outsmart it, beat it at its own game.

Yet Proverbs 22:3 warns us:
“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.”

The danger is clear. Social media algorithms are not your ally—they’re designed to profit from your struggles. Every like, share, or comment you make is fuel for the machine.

But you don’t have to play this game.
