The Myth of ‘Be a Product of the Product’

Imagine walking into a weight loss clinic and being told:

“The secret to shedding pounds is simple—just eat more food than you burn. Trust the process. If you’re not consuming 5,000 calories a day, how can you possibly understand weight loss?”

Absurd, right? But this is exactly how MLMs operate when they push the nonsense that you must personally buy and use everything you sell in order to be successful.

Nowhere else—literally nowhere in the real business world—does this logic exist. Nike sales reps don’t have to buy and wear every single shoe they sell. Car dealers don’t have to drive the entire lot before making a sale. Grocery store employees aren’t required to stock their pantries exclusively with company products. But in MLM? If you dare suggest that maybe—just maybe—you don’t need to drown yourself in your own inventory, you’ll be treated like a heretic.

This idiotic rule isn’t about “believing in your product.” It’s about ensuring you stay a loyal, cash-draining cog in the machine. MLMs don’t make their real money selling to customers—they make it off you. Your mandatory autoship. Your monthly “qualifying” order. Your desperate attempt to hit a rank that will never come because the system is rigged against you.

And the worst part? They’ll gaslight you into thinking it’s your fault. You just don’t believe in the business enough. You need to be a product of the product. If you aren’t willing to invest in yourself, why should anyone else? Translation: Keep buying, keep spending, and shut up about the fact that you’re not making any money.

MLMs don’t want salespeople. They want customers who think they’re business owners. And that’s the ultimate scam.

Next time someone tries to sell you an “opportunity” that requires you to endlessly consume the inventory, ask yourself: is this really a business? Or are you just being fattened up for slaughter?
